Entities Covered PIBO

• Producers (P)
  • engaged in the manufacture of carry bags or multilayered packaging or plastic sheets or like, a
  • Engaged in using plastic sheets or like or covers made of plastic sheets or multilayered packaging for packaging or wrapping the commodity;
• Importers (I)
  • engaged in imports of plastic packaging products or products with plastic packaging or carry bags or multilayered packaging or plastic sheets or like;
• Brand Owners (BO)
  • engaged in selling any commodity under a registered brand label or trademark;

Types of Plastic Packaging Covered

• Category I – Rigid plastic packaging;
• Category II – Flexible Plastic Packaging of single-layer or multilayer plastic sheets
• Category III – Multilayered plastic packaging (MLP) with at least one layer of material other than plastic
• Category IV – Compostable Plastic sheet or like used for packaging as well as carry bags made of compostable plastics.

Obligations

• Registration through the centralized Extended Producer Responsibility portal
• Obligation for recycling
• End-of-life disposal for non-recyclable plastic
• Obligation for use of recycled plastic content
